Making Hay - Butchering dates

Our next butchering dates are:

Beef - August 5, 2013   quarters or halves are still available
Pork - July 29  and August 12    halves and whole still available

Making Hay

One thing that Rodney really enjoyed about making hay this time was watching the deer.
We have a doe and her twin fawns in our hay field and they must not be afraid of the tractor because they were often only 20 feet away.  Rodney would see ears above the standing hay and have to slow down many times to give the fawns time to jump and run out of the way.  But they never went very far.  He would get to the end of the field, turn around to come back and have to wait for them to get out of the way all over again.

ON THE FARM IN JULY

Outagamie County Fair starts today and goes until Sunday.  On my husband’s side, the original family farm was on the corner of 3 counties.  So to this day we feel at home at any one of 3 county fairs.

But when our girls were in 4H, many years ago, we went to the Outagamie County fair every day it ran.  In 4H, Amanda took calves, cats and crocheting.  Brett took goats, cats, food and sewing.

Our granddaughter had an exciting ride last Sunday.  Lyla rode with her dad in the tractor all the way from Hortonville to our farm in Clintonville.  Drew was really disappointed though that he did not get to ride all that way.  But, it will be his turn when we are done borrowing the tractor and they come to drive it back to Hortonville.

Fences and Deer

Thsi wee was frustrating.  Our electric fencer has not been working right for over a week.  We keep checking, keep looking for the problem.  Follow the fence over and over.  Check for tree branches coming down, fixed the ground wire and still did not find the problem.

Sunday our daughter and son-in-law came over.  Andy helped my husband check and finally after hours of trying this and that they found the problem.  A small section of wire had the strans wrapped over each other.  It looked the work of deer trying to go through the fence.

We feel much better knowing that the fencer is working again.

Sorry I still not get the pictures of the grandkids helping on the farm posted.  I still plan to do that, just haven't had the time yet.  Keep checking back, I will get them on here.
